“This ASQ-10 is equipped with the Version 3.10 software for enhanced functionality. The upgrade alone cost $195. It and works as it should and is built like a tank. Cosmetically, it is good, with minor nicks and scuffs that are not surprising considering its age. The transport buttons were recently replaced and hardly used since then. No manual will be included but it can be downloaded at http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/support/downloads.shtml. I will also include 17 blank disks!
Please note, the backlight on this unit is for all intents and purposes dead.” Link

“The production dream duo – do it like producer’s have been making beats since the late 80′s – a CLASSIC pairing – The Mpc2000xl, and Akai S1000. I used the S1000 for longer samples, and the MPC for drum hits…
This legendary duo has been the best friend a producer can have but unfortunately the time has come for us to part ways!! This unit is in peak operating condition, max memory and 8 outs, even has the EFX Board, internal floppy, external zip drive!. 1 owner…
The S1000 has a maxed 32mb of RAM, 8outs, the scsi option card, AND i’m throwing in an external SCSI 135mb removable media scsi drive, with 3 discs full of samples, and three NOS wrapped in plastic discs. The s1000 is running OS 4.04. Did I mention the amazing filters in this beast? Incredible deal, unfortunately, the studio has outgrown itself, and I am selling off some pieces that i don’t use that much in my process that much…” Link

I still enjoy making music with my MPC setup, but I’ve been having a harder time finding the right kind of sounds to add to my music. So, I’ve decided to start researching synthesizers to find that crazy sound I’m looking for. So, to help my journey, a friend and I have just started up another blog featuring snyths called Synthfind. This won’t take away from what I’m doing here, expect the same quality of posting on MPCHunter to continue.
What is Synthfind?
Synthfind features a particular synth manufacturer on each day of the week. Since there are many more synth manufactures than days of the week, Tuesdays are Synth Potluck — where will will feature neat and assorted synths that do not have their own featured day. The schedule is below:
Monday – Moog
Tuesday – Synth Potluck
Wednesday – Arp
Thursday – Sequential Circuits
Friday – Yamaha
Saturday – Korg
Sunday – Roland
Unsure about OS and installed RAM. Should be able to pop a working SCSI HD in to get it working again. “Akai S1000HD Digital Sampler. Enhanced version of the legendary S1000 Digital Sampler. Comtains 40mb SCSI HD which I believe from memory has long since died. Still has SCSI card though.” Link
“VERY IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ: (This unit is almost certainly a prototype and hence 100% functionality can’t be guaranteed)
This is a very early demo unit (date 2002) from AKAI/Alesis R&D used by AKAI for promotional use and may well be a prototype! It has recently been fully expanded with a huge 272Mb RAM (nearly a half hour of sample time!!!), a 40Gb internal HD and a CDR/W burner. Although this unit is in excellent cosmetic condition (the control surface and display are superb) there are a few things of importance to note. Firstly, at some point the unit has been fully upgraded with the 8Ch output and digitial I/O options which have then been removed – as a result the blanking plates are missing – see rear panel photo. The contrast knob is missing too but the control is still usable. In terms of functionality the unit is functioning very well but not 100%, the display is fine, it samples, sequences, loads samples from CDROM, burns CDRs and the drum pads work fine. Both audio outputs and sample inputs are working. That said, I’ve been unable to make any of the on board FX work or the front or rear USB interfaces. The unit is currently running version 1.75a firmware. The unit’s internals are in superb clean condition – the lack of USB is unfortunate but I’ve no idea whether this is due to the unit being very early hardware or whether there is some form of fault. The unit has been run in the studio for hours and appears to be stable – I’ve not managed to make it crash in any way. Because of it’s slightly unknown state there is NO RESERVE on this auction.” Link
Free shipping sweetens this item.

One of the auction pictures clearly show the 8-output board installed, even though it’s not in the description. Have to love uninformed sellers. It does have some cosmetic issues, be aware of that. Link
“You are bidding on an Akai MPC 4000 Sequencer/Drum Machine/Sampler in EXCELLENT condition. There are NO significant signs of wear. Overall this piece is in great cosmetic and working condition. This model comes with a power cord.” Link

Hard to find sample disks for the S612.Grand Piano, Electric Piano, Classical Guitar Classic, Killer Bass, Tenor Sax, Bass Flute, French Horns, Violins and Violas, Broken Glass, Elephant Cry, Poly Brass, Thump Bass, Bell Keys, and two blanks. Link
“Roger Linn’s 3.10 OS is installed and the memory is maxed out w/ a legitimate expansion board. This machine does not have the SCSI upgrade.
Floppy drive works great, pads feel good, sounds excellent.
Cosmetically, I would rate it an 8/10. There are some minor blemishes, the most obvious being that some of the finish is starting to wear off of the knobs.
There are three minor functional issues:
The volume knob is scratchy in a certain part of it’s range when rotated quickly.
The backlight is dead although the display is still completely readable.
The data slider does not move quite as smoothly as it did on the other 60 I owned. It is 100% functional though.” Link
