“This is a working MPC 2000XL with a heavy duty travel case. The screen has a pixel display problem so it would have to be replaced to get far on this machine. A replacement screen can easily be purchased and installed. The screen and a missing fader knob is the only problem with this MPC and its is a great deal with the included travel case.” Link

Akai X7000 Sampler

Monday Jul 27, 2009

“Here we have a brilliant sound mangler in the form of an akai x7000-This sampler is still featured in the chemical brothers kit list and its easy to see why. This thing makes great audio mush of sampled beats and bass.

The sampler is well capable of reproducing with quite good audio fidelity an y sound you put into it but,it has an audio trick up its sleeve which is great if you want to make dirty electronic beats and bass-The trick is the genius function called downsample, simply sample a beat and then press downsample from the front panel, twist the dial under the lcd diaplay anticlockwise and the akai does some calculations in about 2 seconds and then listen to the beat-It will be all dirty and gritty but still pronounced.Want it to be more dirty twist the dial again and it will downsample the downsampled one again. You can keep going until it is just weird random audable abstract noise which sounds very boards of Canada.

In fact I would wager a bet that Boards of Canada have one of these samplers.A true secret weapon in any ones sonic arsenal. Its not going to give you pristine samples but samples with bags of character.

I have replaced the drive belt about 3 weeks ago so the drive is all working as it should,3 of the keys do not work on the keyboard but they will trigger over midi so I know its just a matter of cleaning the contacts.

If you make any sort of electronic beat music and you want your drums to have attitude then this machine will give them attitude-I always think in todays world of vst’s and computers everyone is starting to sound similar in terms of sound.get something a bit special in your mixes.I absolutely gaurentee you will not regret buying this sampler if you like boards of canada, chemical brothers or anythiung with dirty electronic sounds.

The filter is great as well and it has envelopes to shape the sounds you make and looping functions, reverse etc.If you think of this as a effects processor that mangles sounds in a musically pleasing way then you will be delighted with it.

You can also multisample and map sounds across the keyboard but I never did this,I just sampled stuff in twisted the sample up and then spewed it back out of the akai into my DAW-Result grimey electronic beats. This is much better than the ensoniq mirage and is an absolute breeze to program unlike the Mirage.

To sample you press a big button called sample and then set the sample rate in the lcd etc,set the threshold and then send your sample in.Simple as that.

This sampler comes with some disks as well I think about 10 of them and I will dig the manual out if I can find it but you willn ot need the manual its so easy to use, honestly its childs play to use.” Link
