“You’ll see from the photos that its in really nice condition, complete with rack ears and the original User Manual. It’s had its memory expanded to 32MB, can sample direct from audio CDs via the internal drive, and is essentially, the coolest of the rackmount Akais. Oh, it’s of course, the UK-voltage version. The display backlight has faded over the years – but as it doesn’t suffer from the same capacitor-whine that Wavestations do, I never felt the need to fix it, as it still works just fine. “The CD3000XL is probably the best all round sampler you can get. The combination of internal SCSI CDROM and hard drives means no external SCSI boxes and cabling and no fiddling around trying to get everything working reliably. As well as loading patches and samples from data CDs you can also sample/record directly from audio CDs. The internal hard drive (normally only found on 3200 models) allows you to save 540MB worth of patches and samples and can also be used as a digital hard disk recorder. It can load samples from Akai, EMU and Roland format sound libraries. The memory has been upgraded to the maximum 32M bytes.
The Adaptec 2940 PCI card is for attaching the sampler to a PC (with a free PCI slot). I used this to connect my S3000XL i will provide a floppy disc to update the sampler to os 2.00 which you can useto work with the mesa 2 software
A new EL backlight has just been fitted which will last you for years.
The 32Mbytes of installed memory gives you the following sample times:
356 seconds – mono Fs=44.1 KHz, 712 seconds – mono Fs=22.05 KHz, 178 seconds – stereo Fs=44.1 KHz, 356 seconds – stereo Fs=22.05 KHz
However, with the installed hard drive you can also record directly to disk and play back audio while playing patches and samples.
Also supplied are 3 SCSI cables with the 25-pin SCSI plug for the sampler at one end and 3 different SCSI connectors at the other ends for attaching to a PC or a variety of external SCSI devices. Also provided is a SCSI terminator in case you do attach an external SCSI device. The mains cable is provided.

**PLEASE NOTE: This is missing it’s floppy drive** I took the original floppy drive out as it had broke, and had intended to replace but never got round to it as I invested in another sampler. You could easily replace the floppy drive if you want to, however this feature was for saving music files onto floppy disk, therefore quite redundant in todays industry. Price reflects this missing feature.

“This is the same as the S3000XL but with a built in CD rom drive which makes it really easy to sample from CDs and get working quickly. I have resisted selling this as it’s such a great piece of kit but it is unlikely I’ll get around to hooking it up again. I have really looked after this in my smoke free home studio. It has never been racked up and is in perfect condition and working order. It looks new. There are no rack marks or scratches anywhere on it. The screen is still bright and clear and has many hours of use left.
