“This is the dirty 12 bit secret weapon of underground hip-hop! Before the MPC, Future Sound of London and others were hammering out beats on the S612. Sampler is in good condition, with some minor rack scratches, and importantly, the disk drive is included, along with one hard to find quick disc. Nothing sounds like hardware, and no matter what genre you use this with it will give up a phat sound!” Link

“Here, for your bidding enjoyment we have the Complete Package!
Included in this auction:
1 Akai AX60 Polyphonic Synthesizer
All keys buttons, functions, work. Some buttons will double trigger (you hit them once and they think you hit it twice), but they all work. Also the sliders could use some lubrication, but they too work fine.
All voices work great. Arpeggio and split modes work great! Sampler and Midi interface works great
Cosmetically about 6/10. Three of the slider caps are non-original. One key has a crack that has been re-glued (pictured). Some dings here and there and normal wear and tear.
1 Akai S612 Sampler
Functions great no problems here
Has its own LFO and filter independent of the AX60!
1 Akai MD280 Sampler Disk Drive
Also working great
Use this to load and save samples onto the S612
1 Proprietary Cable to connect individual voice out of the sampler to the sampler input of the AX60
Hard to find cable! Allows you to use the sampler as a second oscillator on the Synthesizer. You can get some either really lush or really wacky sounds this way! Run the samples through the filter, LFO, and envelopes! Or split the keyboard and use samples on one side and the synth on the other. This combo is full of possibilities.
10 Diskettes to load samples onto the sampler
I have not used these disks in a while, but I know most of them work. Also very hard to find. Each disk holds 2 samples.
Not included: Rack case” Link

”
Up for bid is an Akai S612 rack mount sampler, with MD280 QD disk drive, 11 Roland “Quick Disks” and printed manual.
Units are in excellent condition, are fully functional and were used in a non-smoking studio. Interesting features of these units are the manual start/splice sliders for some interesting triggered effects, on-board LFO, a light filter, and looping effect. These 12-bit samplers were among the first digital samplers on the scene in the early 80′s, and while don’t have a large capacity or complicated sound reproduction, lo-fi or general phrase sampling is extremely easy to record and play back. Roland Quick Disks I have provided have Roland sound samples which are not readable by the unit, however, a small piece of tape over the square holes in the corners will allow you to record your own samples to disk with no problems. Quick disks are HARD to find, these were all that were available for a while.
There are some scratches on the rear of the MD280, a tiny amount of “rack rash” on the ears of the sampler, and a scratch on the LCD plastic cover plate. All are visible in the pictures. Power cords are attached, and the MD280 plugs/grounds directly into the S612.
Includes:
Akai S612 Sampler
Akai MD280 QD Drive
Printed Manual
11 Quick Disks (10 Roland, one other)” Link

Link

“I am selling my beloved AKAI S612 sampler (S/N: 00810-15573) with the AKAI MD 280 (S/N: 00810-11332) and Operator’s Manual. These two units work perfectly and are in very good condition. I have owned this system for over 25 years and it has seen very minimal use. They spent their entire life in my private home recording studio in the case. Having had a arsenal of keyboards and samplers, I didn’t use these units much at all. I just can’t justify keeping them any more as I have not used them in over 15 years and someone else can get much more use out of them than I could. ” Link

““For sale is my Akai S612 Midi Digital Sampler, Akai MD280 Disc Drive and 57 2.8″ ‘QD’ Quick Disks.
The S-612 was one of Akai’s first professional rack-mount samplers, released in 1985 and retailed for about £1200. Some of its features include 12-bit sampling from 4 to 32 kHz with loop and truncate functions, an overdub function and mic or line input jacks. Internal memory is 128KB which gives a maximum of 8 seconds sampling time at the lowest sampling rate available.
The MD280 disk drive is needed for permanent storage of samples on disk. One sample is stored to each side of the disk.
The S-612 features classic high and low pass filtering and an LFO for modulating and giving your sample an animated edge. It’s also simple and straight forward to operate, responds to external triggering and is still very well suited to many MIDI studio applications.
included is at least 30 discs a hard copy of manual. pick up only or you can arrange for collection” Link

“Akai S612 Sampler inkl. MD280 Sampler Disk Drive

Link

“Rare AKAI MD280 quickdisk storage unit, connects with AKAI S612 sampler, not included (obviously). I got this from a friends studio collection, it was with an S612, which worked perfectly, but this MD280 has not been tested (I don’t have any quickdisks) so it is being sold AS IS. However, I can pretty much say for certain that this unit works perfectly…it is in cosmetically good condition and has spent its whole life on a studio rack” Link
