“For sale is my beloved Akai MPC 3000, an absolute classic unit with an incredible sound and groove, never surpassed by the later models.

I bought this unit second hand a few years ago and never had a single problem with it, it comes with the latest Akai OS (3.11) and 32MB of RAM, which is the maximum supported. This is a UK 220v unit and I will also include a Iomega SCSI ZIP drive and 3×100MB discs.

The original owner painted the armrest in black (perhaps to make it look like the one on the original MPC60?) and I have to say that it looks great, I even like it better than the original grey armrest on my first MPC3000.

The unit is in good condition with just a few marks in the metal case due to its age but nothing serious, the LCD screen is a bit dim but it is still readable (see pictures) and so you will be able to use the machine straight away.

I have even bought new transport buttons for the MPC (the labelling on a couple of them ins’t readable anymore) but in the end I haven’t bothered to replace them simply because the original ones work fine, it’s just that the paint came off a bit on them (see pics)

Also, I have installed new pads (original ones from mpcstuff.com) a few months ago but will include the original ones as well.

So this is a great opportunity to own an amazing sequencer, drum machine, sampler, the auction then includes:

MPC 3000 UK 220v version (it doesn’t need external PSU), OS 3.11, 32MB of RAM

Original Manual

Iomega SCSI ZIP Drive

3 x 100MB discs.

I am very sad to let it go but I’m not doing a lot of sequencing these days and need the money.” Link

Unit is in great condition with the usual wear from use and kept in a smoke free studio. Custom wood side and front rails with red main select and backlight/contrast knobs. All drum pads are fully fuctional and very responsive. All rotary knobs rotate freely without binding and switches are fully fuctional and snappy. The silk screen letters are starting to fade from the Record and Play buttons but are still ledgible and can be replaced rather easly in the future. All LEDs are bright and light up when the function is active. LCD Backlight is bright and display has no lines or missing pixels. Unit has a Zip 100 drive installed and is fully functional. Memory is maxed out at 32 megs of RAM for full sampling time. This MPC does have the VGA option installed but it has not been tested as I don’t have an early VESA compliant monitor to check it. Audio inputs are clean sounding and gain is fully fuctional. L/R stereo out, headphone out, and all 8 individual outputs have been tested and are fully fuctional and clean sounding. MDI functionality has been tested and works great.

OS has been upgraded to Mansell Labs Vailixi 3.50 which provides hybrid Zip Disc partitions that can be read by Mac and Windows for easy file transfer. Details can be found here: http://www.mansell-labs.com. The original Akai OS 3.10 has been included with the unit in a protective case.

This auction includes:

- Akai MPC 3000 Special Edition (32 Megs w/Zip 100 drive, VGA option, Mansell Labs OS Vailixi 3.50) in dark grey with custom wood side and front rails (I do not have the originals) and red main select and backlight/contrast knobs.

- Akai OS 3.10 in protective case (If buyer decides to go back to the original OS but who would want to)

- Power Cord

- Audio cable snake with 8 individual ¼ male to male connectors

- External ZIP 100 drive with USB to transfer files from a Mac or PC. Unit recognized with latest version of Snow Leapard. Don’t have a PC so can’t check compatability with latest windows OS. Drive comes with a USB cable and original power supply.

- (3) ZIP 100 disks with formatted hybrid partitions for Mansell Labs OS Vailixi 3.50.

- (1) CD-ROM from Bangin’ Beats with tons of drum samples to get started. Contains a majority of their current crate lists.

Not included with this auction:

- Original Box for the MPC or Zip Drive

- Original Rails that were replaced with the custom wood ones

- Owners manual (available online)

- Talent” Link

This is THE KING OF ALL DRUM MACHINES!!! You know the specs, you know the history, and you know the reputation… now here’s your chance to own one! This particular machine is in FANTASTIC CONDITION… (a few super-small dings on the casing, but NOTHING major.) Pics don’t lie… judge for yourself. Only 1 owner. Hasn’t been passed around, hasn’t been sold and re-sold, hasn’t been on tour. 100% FULLY FUNCTIONAL. (Everything works… EVERYTHING!) Running O.S. 3.11. All pads have that classic ‘3000′ feel and are springy and responsive, all buttons are operative (and don’t need to be mashed in order to work!), floppy drive functions flawlessly, LCD screen is clean & clear (however, backlight is dimming), Note Variation slider is accurate, and Data Entry Wheel is tight and easily ready for another 50,000 turns… LOL. All outputs/inputs, SCSI, etc. on back panel are clean and functional. Again, this MPC in GREAT CONDITION… inside & out! These machines are highly-prized for their performance and durability. They won’t break-down like their more-recent, plastic counterparts. Built for a lifetime of work! Someone will be very very happy! Original manual and power cord included!” Link
