“AKAI MPC-60 MK II Works perfectly with fairly new backlight.

Here we have the legendry Roger Lynn Akai MPC-60 with its superbly tight sequencer, one of the finest sequencers ever built with rock tight solid house dance sequencing capabilities used by some of the top producers including Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Also used by Teener Turner’s producer who incidentally I met at an exhibition. He was pretty cool.

This example works perfectly and the backlight is relatively new and consequently very bright and clear. This thing sounds marvellous with its onboard sampler and velocity sensitive drum pads all of which work well. The easy tape style transport controls make it easy and fun to use with intuitive locate functions and of course help screens for every screen and menu in the entire system. This has 26 seconds of sample time which is more than ample for drum sampling and one of my favourite features is the button which you hold down while in quantize mode which causes either drums or notes in your sequence to repeat while held down causing great kind of 80s cheesy effects.

The down sides to this are that while cosmetically it is really good in terms of few scratches and nice looking, the print as you can see from the photos is faded quite badly on many of the buttons. Screen printers could sort this out for you if you are really bothered. The other down side which is merely a practical thing rather than sonic is that this is the u.s. voltage version. Don’t let this put you off. There is an appropriate step down transformer to make it work in Europe and UK and sonically there is no compromise. Some theorists reckon the sonic quality is spoiled but we have tested it with both our ears and an oscilloscope and neither show any compromise in the sonic quality and the performance is robust and excellent as you’d expect. There is no mains hum or mains noise at all and the step down in the outer room is not audible easily.” Link

If your reading this listing then I don’t think I need to give it a massive introduction. It’s a fantastic machine and I will be sad to see it leave, The sound of it is amazing and the sequencer is excellent, incredible swing! Limited space and not enough time to use it is forcing the sale. I can see myself buying one in the future when funds allow.

It is an old machine so its not in the greatest of condition, but it functions perfectly. I changed the backlight last year and it is still very bright, It’s running on OS 2.12. There’s a crack across the screen, its only the plastic and not the screen itself so doesnt affect operation at all, its a shame, because otherwise this unit would be in pretty good condition, I’ve tried to bring it up in the photographs but the camera I used wasn’t very good. The pads are responsive and still pretty good. I will include 20-30 DD Floppy disks with it preformatted ready to use with the MPC.” Link

“You are bidding on an Akai MPC-60 Mk 2 drum machine / sequencer. I have recently bought this MPC but do not have the time to use it. It was recently serviced by the previous owner and has had a new backlight display, new super sensitive thick drum pads and some new stop, play and play start buttons installed. It has the most recent version 3.10 ROM software chips installed and has the maximum 26.2 seconds of sampling memory. It also comes with a 10 floppy disk sound library from Midi Mark Productions. I have loaded all of the disks from the internal floppy drive and have played the sounds back ok. Although I have hardly used this MPC it seems to be working absolutely fine. I have not been able to check all of the individual outputs and midi in and outs but I presume they are ok. There are a few scratches here and there as you would expect with a machine from 1991. ” Link

It is in perfect working condition, with only minor cosmetic wear. I purchased it last year from a store in America, that had only just replaced the back-light and drum pads. It is in superb working order. The two jog wheels are a little loose (but completely usable) and the hihat-decay slider is a little rough to push up and down (but again, completely usable). It has been updated to the Roger Linn OS 3.10, which enables stereo link up and a range of updated features, that make it’s usability equal to that of the MPC-3000. “Ive got an akai mpc 60 ii with os 2.12 no scsi, in great condition for sale, all the buttons work great, all the pads work great the screen lights up fine, no dead pixels, the only button missing is the slider knob which most are, you can easily get one on here for like 20 bucks. Besides that sometimes the mix out wouldn’t work but I’ve been using an old cord, when I plug it into the other stereo outs it works fine or the headphone jack out. “For sale is a vintage Akai/Roger Linn MPC 60 II. I purchased it at a local shop here in Chicago. If you’re looking at this you already know the features so i won’t list them here. Unit is stock with v2.12 and floppy drive. Case is clean with a few minor scuffs on the right corner of the unit and data wheel. Only messed around with it enough to sample a few simple kits and make some sequences. Unit sounds GREAT and all the pads, knobs, and buttons work perfectly as well as the floppy drive. Classic 12-bit sound with drums that kick! Selling because I want something more all in one and portable” Link
