“This vintage sampler comes from the early 1990s, an age when sampling had become a huge part of pop culture and its music. Though an entry level machine, this model came loaded features rich with eight banks and eight polyphony. Samples can be triggered from one of eight front buttons, a foot pedal, or one of two selectable midi jacks. The unit can also be used as a two input midi router with midi out and through. The unit is great for rap artists who are looking for that vintage beat loop. beat box sound. Though mono it records at above CD quality 16 bit 32 kHz vs. CD quality 16 bit stereo 44.1 kHZ (8 bit per channel). All controls are front panel accessible with an easy learning curve. If you are looking for a high quality vintage loop sampler that is easy to operate and doesn’t require a computer this is the unit for you. Also great for turning any sound into a musical instrument and an inexpensive way to enter the world of sampling. Comes with several discs of samples including original factory disc. Hat meines Wissens nach in vielen Techno-Produktionen verwendung gefunden.

Man kann bis zu 8 Samples in Mono aufzeichnen, 16bit 32Khz. Bei 1 MB RAM ist die maximale Länge 15 Sekunden.
Die 8 Samples können Multi-Timbral über separate Midi-Channels gespielt werden, daher ist der Sampler gut als zB Drum-Expander geeignet.
Die Samples können gepitcht, getrimmt, geloopt und rückwärts abgespielt werden.

Minimalistischer und funktionaler kann ein Hardwaresampler nicht mehr werden: Ich habe ihn lange als Mellotronersatz und für kurze Sprachsamples genutzt und war immer wieder verblüfft, wie unkompliziert Sampling sein kann und wie befreiend ein wenig technische Limitierung ist. “I am auctioning my Akai S01 digital sampler which I’ve owned for about four years. It’s in excellent working order, has only ever been used in my smoke-free studio (never gigged) and is easy to use. I’ve built a substantial library for it and would be willing to copy the best samples onto floppy disc for the new owner. I have the mains lead and a print-off manual for it. As the item is quite heavy – it’s solid steel – and do not have its original box, I would prefer it to be collected.” Link

“This is an Akai S01 MIDI Digital Sampler, with 8 voice polyphony, 16-bit/32 KHz sampling quality and 1Mb RAM for 15.625 seconds of sample time, expandable to 2Mb for 32.25 seconds. Although it was bought in 1994 it has been well looked-after and carefully stored away for the last few years.

The built-in 3.5” floppy disk drive has developed a fault and would need to be replaced for saving or loading samples this way. The sampler itself still works fine and can be controlled via 2 x MIDI inputs, as well as MIDI THRU and OUT, for transmitting sample data to another device using MIDI sample dump. There are also two mono sample outputs, one mono input, one headphone output and an input for controlling the S01′s playback and sampling features via a foot switch. Although it has no effects built into it, you still have the ability to truncate, transpose, loop and reverse your samples. ” Link
