Each board is 2MB. Either the seller had issues with the MB on his sampler, or some of these modules may be bad or were incorrectly installed.

“These are RAM boards pulled from an old AKAI S1000 sampler. The sampler was having issues and I stupidly discarded it, but kept the memory boards. So if you have an S1000 lying around with empty slots, take advantage of this opportunity.

I’m no longer sure of the capacity of these boards. I think they are 512Kbytes apiece. I faintly remember the S1000 saying “2Mwords” on bootup when all boards were plugged in.

I don’t know if these will work in any other model other than an S1000.” Link

“Up for sale is an Akai IB103 SCSI Interface Board for the Akai S1000/ S1000PB sampler. This board was included in a “lot purchase” with some other Akai gear (see my other items for sale for an Akai ASK90 board). As far as I can tell, this board has never even been installed in a unit. It looks absolutely brand new, and still has the original packaging completely intact, including foil over the entire board. I was told it was acquired by the previous owner as excess stock being sold off from a music store. I do not own an Akai S1000, so I am unable to test the unit, but I can’t imagine that it doesn’t work perfectly. That said, item is being sold as is. The unit comes in the original box with the original manual and disk. The original price for $275 is marked on the box.

“You Are Bidding on a Akai professional Midi Stereo Digital Sampler model S1000PB. This unit had two owners. The first owner had it in his recording studio since he bought it in the 1980s. I then got it from him and played around with it for a short time. This unit is in working order. I don’t fully understand all of its functions but what I understand this was quite the cutting edge technology back in the day for sound sampling.

I will be including a couple copies of the operating system files to a disk with this unit. There is a Readme file on how to use the disk. I will also include a copy of the user manual(made from a .pdf version) and the .pdf version I have on a CD rom.” Link

It has all the other functions of a standard S1000, including programme set up etc. It has eight separate outs on the back, which all work, plus mono/ stereo outputs. Also set out on the back is midi in/out/thru. There is some effects send/return plugs also.

This item would be perfect for a vintage collector, or anyone with a midi setup, as it is 100% working, having been fired up and fully tested. It had been set up in a smoke free studio for a few years, but the studio had to be pulled down, due to the arrival of children, the studio room was turned into a child’s bedroom.
It had been sitting in my loft, in a black dustbin liner, ever since.

One thing I have to add is that the contrast on the screen is a little weak, it is viewable, but you have to look straight at it. But cosmetically, it is in very good nick. The lettering on the front panel is still very bright and clear, without any scratches or marks. I always used soft fingers on this unit, so all buttons and knobs still feel quite sturdy to the touch. This unit is backward compatible, meaning it will play S900/S950 samlples also.” Link
