“You are bidding on a pre-owned AKAI S950. The item is in very good condition considering the age of the unit. The unit was recently tested and confirmed working…just pulled from the studio. The only known issues with the unit is that it has a slight yellow tint, the volume button for the headphones appears to be broken, a knob cover is missing, and the backlight seems to be fading…however you can still read the display as long as you have a light source…the words are still visible). None of the previously listed issues proved to be an issue during our test.” Link

“Vintage Akai S950 12 bit rack mount sampler. Condition is 8/10 has power lead and some discs with sounds 3 all up. Has the standard memory but you can expand, i was using this more for the sound for drums and unique timestretch glitchy sound. Ive found there wasnt really anything else wether a plugin or later version sampler that sounded the same. Used to use along side an MPC60 i sold a long time ago but has been in storage for a long time, powers up and works fine. As this is heavy and 3 unit postage could be $40 plus but you are welcome to pick up from my studio in Potts Point. ” Link

“I am listing this item for a friend who does not have an ebay account. The sampler has been in dry storage for several years, and was in full working order at that time. However, we do not have the necessary equipment to test it now, so please bear that in mind if you intend to bid on it. I have powered the sampler up, however, and the display reads as follows:

AKAI S950 1.2 1536 KWORDS INSTALLED AKAI PROFESSIONAL.
This would seem to suggest that it has the later 1.2 operating system (OS). I do not know if the “1536 kwords installed” refers to memory or some other feature; the S950 originally came with 750k of memory, with a possible expansion upto 2.25 meg. This unit was originally purchased by a County Council arts organisation, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it had a memory upgrade, but to be on the safe side, it would be best to assume it didn’t” Link
