For auction we have an akai X7000 professional sampling keyboard. Item measures 41″ wide, 14″ long & 4.5″ tall. Visual condition is excellent, maybe a small mark around but nothing noticable, torn sticker mark on one side. In full working order & comes with Akai SL 701/701/715 sound library discs including:

Pipe organ, 3 types of grand piano, tenor saxaphone, electric piano, girl’s voice & brass. Also comes with one box of seemingly unused floppy discs & one box of used (10 in each box).” Link

I have tested it and it all seems to work fine although I don’t have the means to test the floppy disk drive so am not sure if that works.

It comes complete with the original manual and a soft case and power lead.

The unit is really easy to use and everything works fine apart from the disk drive, which whirrs but doesn’t spin the disk, so I assume it just needs a new drive belt. Unfortunately, I have mislaid the disk that came with it.

Cosmetically it is OK apart from one of the rear corners has a crack in the plastic.

Comes with manual and a power lead. (The stand in the pictures is not included.)” Link

” Akai X7000 sampling keyboard! Vintage, and works GREAT! I purchased this on eBay a few months ago, and have since run out of room for keyboards– rackmount samplers only for me. This is a wonderful, analog board that has MIDI in/out jacks, among many others: mic and line in jacks (for sampling), sampling tune knobs, sustain pedal, sample record trigger on/off and more. The front panel uses a large data wheel to edit parameters and sounds– record in 12 bit!

I purchased this from a great seller, who had a tech go over this entire synth– unfortunately, that tech did not have a chance to test or fix the Quick Disk drive. Using a 2.8″ Quickdisk, the motor spun eternally and the red light came on. Perhaps it’s a belt, or dirty heads. Regardless, it needs to be fixed; thus, you can’t save samples to the disk drive at present. There’s lots of discussion online about good replacement belts…

As is, this board serves as a great ‘on-the-fly’ sampler, and/or as a FANTASTIC MIDI controller. Its buttons are arranged in such a way that allows changing programs quickly. Over some new plastic crappy studio controller, use this 1986 synth, made of hard plastic and metal. It plays great; I have the matched Akai AX73 synth, and I will always love its keys…

“Here’s a vintage Akai X7000 sampling keyboard in great condition. It’s in working condition, powers up, and loads the discs. It comes with original manual, a carrying case, and the floppy discs shown. The floppy drive still has the travel insert, which you stick in the drive when transporting. The cosmetic condition is excellent, with only a few minors bumps and only a couple of small scratches. “Very rare Akai X7000 Sampling Keyboard from 1986 (yes, a sampler the same age as Calvin Harris). Beautiful crunchy 12 bit sound, degrades your noises in a very pleasing way. You can use a bitcrusher plug in, or you can get the real deal. The X7000 model (not this one) has been used by the mighty Chemical Brothers, amongst others.

PLEASE NOTE: The Disk Drive does not work, so you won’t be able to save your samples to QuickDisk (not included) – however, what you’d want to use this for is putting sounds in and resampling them straight away to your sampler or computer . It also needs a new plug on it, and comes without a manual (but it’s very simple and you can download one from this page: http://www.vintagesynth.com/akai/x7000.php).

“I purchased this keyboard several years ago after hearing the rack-mount version which gave a nice edge to the sampled signal. I have not been able to verify if this unit is working properly because I don’t have any of the Akai formatted 2.8” disks. I found some of the 2.8” disks but they were formatted for a Roland sampler and the Akai couldn’t read it. It recognized that there was a disk in the drive as it gave an error message.

The unit does power up and you can hear the disk drive spin, looking for a disk. I imagine there is a start-up disk or such because the unit acts like it is looking for a program to finish the start-up. The unit does have a tone that can be heard when a key is pressed and it does follow the keyboard up and down in tune. I also verified that the unit is sending MIDI note date when a key is pressed as I used it as a controller for a different module.

Due to the fact that I can’t verify if this unit is fully functional, I’m offering it with no starting price or reserve. However, I am listing it to sell “as is” and “no returns”. If someone gets this and finds out I wasn’t pressing the right button or such, I’ll be upset as I really wanted to make this work. But the price is right for someone that knows what they are doing or if they already have some of the Akai disks. ” Link
