MPC RAM Upgrades
For those looking to upgrade the RAM for their MPC, below are pictures and information to help you get the correct memory for your MPC.
Akai MPC 60
The MPC 60 uses a proprietary 720kB memory expansion that increases the system memory to 1.5MB from 720kB. There have been compatible third-party RAM boards created, though since the MPC 60 is vintage there are no known companies selling “new” upgrades. Your best bet to find a board is on eBay.
The RAM in the MPC 3000 can be upgraded to 32MB by using two 16MB non-parity 30-pin SIMMs. Your best bet is to find this on eBay. Search for MPC 3000 RAM on eBay
Akai MPC 500, MPC 1000, MPC 2500
The MPC 500, MPC 1000 and MPC 2500 can be upgraded with the EXM-128 Memory Expansion which will increase the system memory from 16MB to 128MB. This memory is still available to purchase directly from Akai or an Akai distributor. A suitable and cheaper substitution for the EXM-128 memory is to purchase one 256MB PC133 CL3 144PIN SODIMM Memory which is also known as Notebook/Laptop Memory.
Due to the way the MPC recognizes the memory, you will need to buy a 256MB stick for it to see 128MB.
Your local computer store may have this in stock, but eBay will likely be the cheapest place to find the memory. Click here to search for this memory on eBay
MPC 2000, MPC 2000XL
The memory in the MPC 4000 can be upgraded from 16MB to 512MB with two sticks of 256MB PC133 168-pin RAM. Your best bet to find this memory is on eBay.
The MPC 5000 uses a proprietary 128MB memory expansion that increases the system memory to 192MB from 64MB. This memory is still available to purchase directly from Akai or an Akai distributor.
